Texas Second Chance Program
In our efforts to feed thousands of needy families in the 16-county service area, the San Antonio Food Bank has entered into many creative partnerships that enable us to be as efficient as possible. One of those partnerships is with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice through the Texas Second Chance Program.
The Texas Second Chance Program allows us to provide work and training at the San Antonio Food Bank for 22 male offenders that are incarcerated full time at the Dominguez State Jail. Our six-month program provides professional training in warehousing and inventory skills and an opportunity to become certified in the operation and use of warehouse machinery.
Each Friday at the Food Bank, these men attend a one-hour class where they receive instruction and hear from guest speakers. We are looking for corporate leaders to inspire and educate these students/offenders as they are attempting to create a positive change in their future. Would you consider spending a half hour of your lunch break on an upcoming Friday talking with our students about your industry and the choices you have made that have attributed to your success and any advice you think may be of value to them?
Our speaker's program runs twice a year with speakers from 12:30 – 1 p.m. every Friday. Carlos Torres, the Director of Operations, is the instructor and manager of the Texas Second Chance Program. Please call Di Anne Garza at (210) 337-3663 to schedule a speaking engagement.
