Additional Warehouse Shifts For Summer

Where: San Antonio Food Bank
When: Monday or Friday 6-8 pm & Sunday 1-4pm
Who:Volunteer Groups of 30 or more

Age requirement: 15 years of age

Dress Code: Due to safety concerns all volunteers must wear close-toed shoes (no sandals or flip flops) and clothes appropriate to work in a warehouse environment.

Job Description: Summer is the busiest time of year and we are in urgent need of volunteers.



Mobile Pantry Volunteer

Where: In and around the San Antonio area
When: Time and days vary, mostly during the weekdays. Events in Bexar County normally last 4 hours.
Who: Individuals/Groups of 10 or less volunteers

Age Requirement: 18 years of age

Dress Code: For safety, absolutely no sandals or flip-flops, please wear closed-toed shoes. These events are outside so ìdress for the weatherî. Volunteers may want to bring gloves.

Job Descriptions: Assist the Mobile Pantry Coordinator (MPC) by breaking down pallets of product, bagging if necessary and handing out product to clients. This includes cleaning up the area and stacking pallets and trash into truck. Volunteers will also collect vouchers from clients and help with traffic control. Verifying clients have vouchers before receiving product, if a client does not have a voucher then qualifying client and assisting them with voucher.

Agency Store Volunteer

Where: San Antonio Food Bank
When: Monday - Friday: 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Hours may be flexible due to volunteer needs.
Who: Individuals

Age requirement: 15 years of age

Dress Code: Due to safety concerns all volunteers must wear close-toed shoes (no sandals or flip flops) and clothes appropriate to work in a warehouse environment.

Job Description: Assist Agency Relations staff in restocking and arranging edible and non-edible food items. Checking dates as instructed. Other warehouse duties include, but not limited to: sweeping, trash pick up, mopping and general clean-up of work areas.

Community Garden

Where: San Antonio Food Bank
When: Monday & Wednesday 9am -12 pm & Saturday, 9:00AM to 12:00 PM
Who: Individuals and Groups of up to 5 volunteers (Monday - Wednesday) & Individuals and Goups of up to 10 volunteers (Saturday)

Age requirement: 12 years of age

Dress Code: For safety, absolutely no sandals or flip-flops, please wear closed-toed shoes. Dress for the weather. Volunteers may want to bring gloves.

Job Description: Assist with the planting, caring for and gleaning of fruits, vegetables and other edible plants. Help with the construction of square foot gardening boxes, raised beds, trellises, walking paths and assist with general maintenance of existing structures. Duties may include composting, weeding, digging, planting, watering and/or hoeing.

Please Note: Some water is provided. Volunteer sessions could be cancelled, should a cancellation occur we will attempt to provide another volunteer opportunity. Individual’s sensitive to bee stings should not volunteer in the garden.

Warehouse

Warehouse Sorting and Packing Volunteer

Where: San Antonio Food Bank
When: Tuesday - Saturday
Shift 1: 9:00 AM to 12 PM
Shift 2: 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM
When: Every Wednesday
Shift 3: 5:30 PM to 8 PM

Who: Individuals and groups of up to 50 volunteers on weekdays and up to 150 volunteers on Saturdays

Age requirement: 8 years of age

Dress Code:Due to safety concerns all volunteers must wear close-toed shoes (no sandals or flip flops) and clothes appropriate to work in a warehouse environment.

Job Description: Sorting edible and non-edible food products and placing them in appropriate bins or boxes. Checking for signs of contamination, unknown spills on the product and/or rotten smells. Assist in checking dates of product as instructed. Other warehouse duties include, but not limited to: sweeping, trash pick up, mopping and general clean-up of work areas.

The Kitchen Table Volunteer

Job Description: Assist with client intake, sorting and distributing food products, cleaning work areas, stacking boxes/pallets, assisting with various class preparations, clerical work and much more.

Community Kitchen

Kids Cafe

Where:San Antonio Food Bank
When: Monday - Thursday
Shift 1- 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM
When: Friday
Shift 2- 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Who: Shift 1 - Individuals and Groups of up to 10 volunteers, Shift 2 - Individuals and Groups of up to 10 volunteers

Age requirement: 8 years of age

Dress Code: Due to safety concerns all volunteers must wear close-toed shoes (no sandals or flip flops) and clothes appropriate to work in a kitchen environment.

Job Description: Receive briefing on the day's meal(s) to be distributed to Kids Cafe sites; issue and document Kids Cafe meals, load meals into hot/cold holding containers; accurately document times that meals were picked-up, equipment was returned and issued; wash, clean, sanitize & store kitchen tools, containers & equipment. Pre-prep as needed for next day's meal; sweep, mop and store supplies as needed. Assist with general pick-up/clean-up as needed & requested by Executive Chef.





Summer Feeding Program

Where:San Antonio Food Bank
When: Monday - Friday
Shift 1- 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
When: Friday
Shift 2- 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Who: Individuals and Groups of up to 30 volunteers per shift

Age requirement: 18 years of age

Dress Code: * Shoes - Due to safety concerns all volunteers must wear close-toed shoes. No boots, heels, sandals or flip flops. Shoes must be safe for a kitchen such as tennis shoes.

* Attire – Please dress appropriate to work in a kitchen environment (jeans, t-shirt). No low-cut shirts, tank tops or shorts above mid-thigh please.

* Hair - Every volunteer will be asked to wear a hair net provided for you. You may bring a hat to wear over the hair net if you would like.

* Jewelry - the only jewelry that the Health Dept. allows in the kitchen is a plain wedding band (medical bracelets are okay if necessary). We don’t provide a safe to keep your jewelry. It is best to leave your jewelry (rings, earrings and bracelets) at home.

CELL PHONES Cell phones in the kitchen are a serious sanitation issue. Only in emergency situations should a volunteer use a cell phone. If you have to stop to take a phone call you must remove your gloves, wash your hands then re-glove up.

Haven for Hope

Who: Individuals/Groups of up to 20 volunteers

Age requirement: 15 years of age

Job Description: Assist with the preparation and serving of breakfast, lunch and dinner meals for residents of Haven for Hope. Other kitchen duties include, but not limited to: All aspects of kitchen clean up e.g. dishwashing, sweeping, mopping. Volunteers will also greet the residents as they arrive for their meals.

Administrative Services Volunteer

Where: San Antonio Food Bank

Dress Code: Volunteers should wear clothing that is tasteful and appropriate for a professional work environment.

Job Description: A variety of administrative tasks including, but not limited to: internet research, letter folding, stapling pamphlets, data entry and/or answering phones.

Property Beautification Volunteers

Where: San Antonio Food Bank
When: First and Second Saturday of every month
Who: Individuals/Groups of 10 or less volunteers

Age requirement: 18 years of age

Dress Code: For safety, absolutely no sandals or flip-flops, please wear closed-toed shoes. These events are outside so dress for the weather. Volunteers may want to bring gloves.

Job Description: Assist with the continued beautification of the San Antonio Food Bank property by planting seeds, bulbs, foliage, flowering plants, grass, ground covers, trees, and shrubs, and apply mulch for protection, using gardening tools. Assist with established lawn care such as mowing, mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing and removing thatch, and trimming and edging around flower beds, walks, and walls. Occasionally assist with painting of exterior and interiors walls.

APPLE CORP-Volunteer Leadership Opportunities

Where: San Antonio Food Bank
When: Same times as warehouse volunteer sessions
Who: Individuals, all volunteers require prescreening and approval by the Volunteer Manager.

Job Description: On a daily basis, teaching, leading and mentoring volunteers for groups of up to 40. Provide general and accurate information about the Food Bank, promote programs and policies. This position requires an outgoing personality and experience working with diverse populations including persons with special needs. Excellent verbal and motivational communication skills are needed. A willingness to speak in public and must be professional at all times. A basic understanding of the principles of volunteer management is helpful. To be considered a Team Lead, a volunteer must first volunteer twice a week for a period of 2 months. This opportunity is perfect for retirees.
